When the neon lamp is ON in a dark environment lights of the room are off , the lamp begins flickering and it sometimes goes off for a few seconds. When I switch the lights of the room on, it stops flickering and remains bright. Even when I unlock my phone in the dark near the lamp, it stops flickering! Is the light-making-mechanism in neon lamps affected by the light intensity of the surrounding environment?
Best Surge Protector Protect Your Gear With These Power Strips - IGN
The ubiquitous power strips used in every type of home or office have a tendency to flicker caused by the slow deterioration of the indicator light. You see this condition only in power strips with neon lamps, not those with LED indicators. Because the light is faint, you notice it most easily in a darkened room. The blinking is confined to the light itself; it doesn't affect the strip or the AC power available at the sockets. Most power strips have a power switch that contains a red indicator lamp; by looking at the lamp, you can easily tell if the strip is on or not.
Dim or kill your devices' bright LED lights once and for all
A power strip also known as an extension block , extension box , power board , power bar , plug board , pivot plug , trailing gang , trailing socket , plug bar , trailer lead , multi-socket , multi-box , socket board , super plug , multiple socket , multiple outlet , polysocket and by many other variations is a block of electrical sockets that attaches to the end of a flexible cable typically with a mains plug on the other end , allowing multiple electrical devices to be powered from a single electrical socket. Power strips are often used when many electrical devices are in proximity, such as for audio , video , computer systems, appliances, power tools , and lighting. Power strips often include a circuit breaker to interrupt the electric current in case of an overload or a short circuit. Some power strips provide protection against electrical power surges. Typical housing styles include strip, rack-mount , under-monitor and direct plug-in.
